General Home and Housing Types Found In Buena Park

When the Depression hit in the 1920s, Buena Park’s luxury residences were frequently broken up into multi-unit homes, and remain so today. Styles include Prairie, Queen Anne, Classical Revival, and Richardsonian Romanesque. These are usually subdivided inside. Buena Park also incorporates high rise buildings along Lake Shore Drive, as well as some townhomes and single-family units. Homes in the Buena Park neighborhood can range between $130,000 and $3.3 million.

Buena Park Neighborhood History

Founded as a suburb in 1887, and absorbed into the city of Chicago a few years later, Buena Park is a break in both the city grid plan and the general architecture of the north side. Buena Park’s Hutchinson Street was designated a Chicago Landmark in 1977. The street, originally called Kenesaw Terrace, is home to one of the city’s best collections of Prairie-style residences, many of which were designed by architect George W. Maher. This historic street offers a unique perspective on residential construction styles in use from 1890 - 1920.

Events, Activities, Lifestyle, and Dining Options In Buena Park

In small neighborhoods like this one, especially with such a focus on residential life and a strong historic sense, there are often scant few offering for dining, nightlife, and other activities. Buena Park is no exception. The entire neighborhood offers fewer dining choices than some blocks in more active areas. But that is not to say there is nothing to choose from!

One of the most popular places in Buena Park is Michael’s Pizzeria, a low-key pizzeria & sports bar featuring a menu of red & white pies & pub food. Aiming at a more classic theme is the Holiday Club, with a Rat Pack vibe and custom cocktails alongside a well thought out menu. The neighborhood bar niche is filled by Driftwood, a traditional Chicago bar – pool, drinks, darts.

Buena Park Neighborhood Culture, Shopping, and Lifestyle

Buena Park offers the shopper a bit more to choose from. Exotic pets are the thing at Curious Creatures - snakes, lizards, and turtles are their specialty. For the cycle set, Nearly New Bicycle is a must, offering repair and resale services. For a classic interior design option, Oil Painting Express will convert your photo into an oil painting and frame the results for you. Nearby Montrose Harbor offers a sheltered harbor for boaters to store their vessels during the boating season.
